1. Listen to Girls To The Front on any Triple J affiliated station.
Triple J, Double J and Triple J Unearthed are all featuring nothing but fierce female artists all day today. Turn it up loud and dance your heart out as they celebrate women in music, and all walks of life, with a massive 24 hours of great songs, stories and discussions from female-identifying artists, music programmers and presenters..
2. Teach her to meditate
Wellness expert and author Jon Gabriel explains meditation as being a practise that helps to strengthen intuition. A 5 year old with a lazy eye will get a patch over thier strong eye to further strengthen the weak muscles.
Mediation trains you to put a 'patch over your other five senses so that you can tune into and strengthen your intuition.
A teen with a strong intuition and sense of self is far less likely to engage in risky behaviour, or seek outside validation from people or things that may not serve her.
3. Surround her with strong female role models
Encourage her to hang with that cool friend of yours who is CEO of her company, encourage her to sit and chat with your fierce female besties, find opportunities for her to listen to other strong women speak about thier experiences.
Better yet, sign her up for an activity where she will be mentored by strong role models who will encourage her to strive for excellence. Whether it's a swim team, a sports coach or on of our teen bootcamp sessions, being surrounded by inspirational mentors will help her see and realise her potential.
4. Encourage her to volunteer
Research has shown that teens who engage in community service are more responsible with higher self-esteem and resilience. Volunteering helps the teens gain new skills necessary for the job market such as leadership, communication skills, dependability, time management, and decision making. Teens who volunteer perform better at school and also build a stronger resume for college and scholarship applications.
5. Find an activity that will celebrate her and further boost her self esteem
Beautiful Minds runs programs for pre-teen and teen girls, and is Australia's leading provider of self esteem and confidence education.
Founder and director Marina Passsilaris says:
"I believe in educating our teens at a young age about who they are, how their minds work, what healthy relationships look like, how to make good choices when it comes to peer pressure around drugs, alcohol and smoking, how to stop the negative self-chatter, how to like what you see when you look in the mirror, making the decisions not to sext and so many other vital topics. Then, we will create a generation of smart, happy, powerful young individuals who in turn will contribute greatly to their local communities."
Right now we are offering you the opportunity to empower you daughter as well as celebrate her and boost her self esteem.
